Simon's academic journey includes a Bachelor of Arts in political science and history and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Auckland. His pursuit of knowledge led him to study at the London School of Economics and St Catherine's College, Oxford. His time in politics was highlighted by his role as Leader of the National Party and Leader of the Opposition, where he became the first person with Māori ancestry to lead a major party in New Zealand.
