Eric Murray

Eric Murray is a highly acclaimed New Zealand rower, celebrated for his extraordinary achievements in the sport.


As one half of the legendary "Kiwi pair" with Hamish Bond, Murray experienced an eight-year unbeaten run in the coxless pair category. This impressive streak included 69 race victories across 24 regattas, yielding six world titles and double Olympic gold. The pair also set a world record time of 6:08.50 at the 2012 London Olympic Games, a record that still stands as of 2021. Murray retired as a gold medalist from both the 2012 London Olympic Games and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games​​​​.

In addition to his rowing career, Murray has participated in other activities. In 2022, he was a contestant on the dancing show "Dancing with the Stars"​​. His contributions to rowing have been widely recognised, earning him a place as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2013 New Year Honours. In 2018, he and Bond received the Thomas Keller Medal from the International Rowing Federation, the sport's highest honour, for their outstanding international rowing career and exemplary sportsmanship. In the 2023 New Year Honours, Murray was promoted to Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to rowing​​.
